Frosted Pink with a Twist, a dynamic television event that aired on ABC-TV in October, brought together 2008 Olympic gymnastic stars and music legends to raise awareness of cancers primarily affecting women. Sanofi-aventis U.S., a leader in oncology research and therapies, served as a presenting sponsor of the program, which celebrated survivorship and encouraged women to become advocates for themselves in the fight against cancer.

“From innovative research and treatments to support of awareness programs such as Frosted Pink with a Twist, sanofi-aventis U.S. is committed to making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families,” said Tim Rothwell, Chairman, sanofi-aventis U.S. “When people have the facts, they can make informed decisions.  We hope that this program served as an impetus for women to share knowledge about prevention, detection and treatment – information is a powerful force for good health.”

Hosted by Olympic Gymnastics Champion Shannon Miller and cancer survivor and Olympic Figure Skating Champion Scott Hamilton, the television program highlighted Olympic Champions, Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin and other stars of Men’s and Women’s U.S. Olympic Gymnastics teams.  Paired with these champion gymnasts were icons of song, including Grammy winner Carole King, Cyndi Lauper and billboard sensations Natasha Bedingfield and Jesse McCartney.

In conjunction with the company’s sponsorship of Frosted Pink with a Twist, sanofi-aventis U.S. teamed up with 2008 Olympic Champion Shawn Johnson to issue a call to action.  Shawn, who is the granddaughter of a cancer survivor, is communicating to women of all ages that “What You Do Matters” when it comes to cancer.  She is urging women to get the facts, talk to their doctor and other women about their feelings during the cancer journey and prepare for the future.

“This cause means a lot to me and my family because when my grandma battled breast cancer 11 years ago, I believe ‘what we did mattered’ to help her get through it,” said Shawn. “She and my parents asked a million questions about the disease. I was six when she came to live with us, and I did everything a little girl could to help out.  Now speaking out about ‘What You Do Matters,’ I feel I can make a difference by urging women of all ages to get the facts on their personal cancer history, share their concerns with their doctors and act now to prepare for the future.”
